Jim Vance, MD, MBA is an independent healthcare consultant with twenty-five years of clinical practice and fifteen years of clinical performance improvement experience. His unique background includes helping organizations improve clinical and operational effectiveness through fostering clinician collaboration, enhancing patient safety, and communicating clinical and financial outcomes.
Previously Dr. Vance served as Regional Medical Director for Humana Healthplans in South Florida, Cigna Private Practice Plan (HMO) in Southern California, and The Travelers Health Network in Atlanta. As Medical Director of the Kemper Insurance Company Managed Care Division, he worked with several national employers in developing integrated disability management programs.
He currently reviews medical documentation in conjunction with RAC audits. Recently, he was Vice President of Clinical Affairs for VHA Georgia where he provided physician faculty support for VHA's clinical improvement and patient safety workshop collaboratives.
Dr. Vance served on the faculty of the Indiana University School of Medicine and followed with fifteen years private practice in south Florida prior to entering full time health care administration. After graduation from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, he completed his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, and an internal medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic. An endocrinology fellowship followed at the University of Washington. Dr. Vance also attained a physician executive MBA from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
